Remember this name—Morgan Saint. She doesn’t just write pop songs; she builds worlds. Her music blends sleek alt-pop production with lyrics that feel like confessions meant for no one and everyone at once. A self-contained creative force from Mattituck, New York, she writes, produces, and plays across her records, shaping something deeply personal yet instantly magnetic. Her latest album, Out of the Blue, is her most vulnerable and fully realized work yet—melancholy and luminous in equal measure, the kind of pop record that feels both weightless and devastating.
An indie-pop auteur from the start, she emerged in 2017 with her debut EP, 17 HERO, quickly setting herself apart with a distinct sound that deepened across ALIEN (2018) and HELP (2020). As her life evolved, so did her music—this time with a creative partner by her side. Collaborating with her wife, Carley Ridersleeve, she shaped every aspect of the album, from production to visuals, artwork to photography, making it her most personal project yet.
Morgan Saint has earned praise from Rolling Stone, Billboard, MTV, Complex, Vogue, i-D, Cosmopolitan, and Harper’s Bazaar. She’s toured with BANKS and Goldfrapp, performed live sessions for NPR and KXT, and brought her ethereal pop to festival crowds at Lollapalooza, Life Is Beautiful, and Forecastle.
We caught up with her to talk about the record, the emotional weight of songwriting, and what’s been inspiring her lately.
But first, listen to this.....
Huge congrats on the release of your debut album, this isn't a small deal—how are you feeling about it right now?
Thank you, I’m feeling good. Really excited to perform these new songs and already itching to make more music!
What are some fundamental values of yours, as an artist, and what does your trajectory look like ideally?
My main focus is always making things close to my heart, and for me that means having full creative control. That’s a non-negotiable. From there, the sky's my limit.
Your visuals are so striking. How does your art and fashion influence your music (or vice versa) and how do you stand out in this saturated musical climate right now?
Thank you! It all goes hand in hand. At the end of the day, I’m really just trying to export the world that lives inside of my head. I just try to share my most authentic self.
Your debut album is "self made" <huge applause>, what are the challenges in tackling such a task?
Thank you! My wife Carley Ridersleeve and I made this album from top to bottom ourselves - every instrument you hear is played by us, all of the lyrics and melodies and visuals - we engineered the whole thing, just us two. So really the workload and not having enough hours in the day were our biggest challenges. We were also making a country record for Carley and filming visuals for those songs while we were making my album and visuals, so to say it was chaotic was an understatement. Luckily we have each other to lean on.
What is your absolute moment of pride on the album—a song, a sound, a utilised technique, anything...
It’s difficult to pinpoint one thing! But I would say I’m proud of myself for trusting my intuition. Since it was all on me at the end of the day, it was very fulfilling to build up that self confidence.
If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Hmmm... I can’t choose just one, so here’s who’s coming to mind in this moment: Omar Apollo because he seems like a cutie and I love his music, Mk.gee, SZA, Justin Bieber, Daft Punk, Teezo Touchdown, Annie Lennox, the list goes on!
According to your instagram, we see vinyl is pressed—what does the format mean to you?
I love how warm vinyl feels and how it really ties the album together sonically. It’s so cool to hold a physical album in my hands that I made top to bottom! It’s very rewarding.
What’s a record (by another artist) or a song that’s been on repeat for you lately?
I’ve been loving this late 90’s Madonna song called 'Drowned World/Substitute For Love' from her album called Ray Of Light.
Where does Morgan Saint the artist end and Morgan the human begin? When you’re not making music, where can we find you?
Morgan Saint is really the most true me! When I’m not making music, I’m making visuals and having fun with fashion. If not, I’m cooking, drinking iced tea, enjoying nature and chill vibes. I love the water, so I often find myself at the beach when I need a break from all the noise.
What do you know about / what are your impressions of Australia?
It looks beautiful and chill and y’all seem to like the music! So it’s definitely on my wish list to get there soon to perform.
