Sufjan Stevens reunites with Luca Guadagnino for new video

On paper, the new video from Sufjan Stevens' latest magnum opus The Ascension is somewhat of a wet dream. It sees him reunite with Call Me Your Name film director Luca Guadagnino who directed the video for latest single Tell Me You Love Me and the results are stunning!

The video is made in collaboration with photographer Alessio Bolzoni and artist Celia Hempton, and is a reunion of sorts for Guadagnino and Stevens, who contributed new music — including the Best Original Song Oscar-nominated “Mystery of Love” — to Call Me By Your Name.

Guadagnino said of the visual in a statement: “The aching feeling of loving and wanting to be loved, the mystery of bodies that clash, the uncanny aspects of nature, the sublime music poetry and voice of Sufjan —all this went into this video that I am proud to have made with the collaboration of two more great artists, Alessio Bolzoni and Celia Hempton."

Stevens has previously shared visuals for "Video Game" and "Sugar" from his eight studio album The Ascension. It was released back in September, was featured as our Record Of The Month and continues to receive critical acclaim. If you ask us, it's an utterly essential inclusion in your vinyl collection.
